Direct Thermal vs. Thermal Transfer

Direct thermal printers print on heat-sensitive paper without using a ribbon, making them ideal for receipts and short-term labels. Thermal transfer, on the other hand, uses a ribbon, resulting in long-lasting, fade-resistant prints suitable for barcodes and asset labels.

Receipt Printer or Label Printer?

Receipt printers (typically 80mm) are optimized for fast point-of-sale receipt printing. Label printers print product, shelf, or shipping labels, with label size and barcode quality being key considerations. You may need separate devices depending on your specific needs.

Print Width & Speed

For receipts, 58mm or 80mm are common. For labels, choose based on the widest label width you need. At busy checkout points, print speed (mm/sec) affects customer waiting time.

Consumables and Total Cost
